  1.                                        FOR A QUICK START
  2.      To start a collision select either ╘New╒ under the ╘File╒ menu and click 
  3. either of the first four buttons then select ╘Configure╒ under the ╘Galaxy╒ 
  4. menu and then click the ╘OK╒ button, after a short wait the window will 
  5. disappear.  Now select ╘Plot╒ from the ╘Galaxy╒ menu and the plotting at 
  6. each time unit will now occur.  The collision that occurs depends on the 
  7. button selected.  By going straight to selecting ╘Configure╒ under the 
  8. ╘Galaxy╒ menu and then click the ╘OK╒ button, waiting, then selecting ╘Plot╒ 
  9. from the ╘Galaxy╒ menu a standard ring galaxy collision is started.  If while 
  10. under configure you change any of the data in the edit fields you can change 
  11. to a non standard collision.

  13.                                             APPLE MENU
  14.      ╘About Galaxy Collisions...╒ reshows the screen you had to cancel, by 
  15. clicking the ╘Continue╒ button or pressing the <Return> key.

  17.                                              FILE MENU
  18.      ╘New╒ displays a dialog window for selecting various types of final 
  19. galaxy types; Ring, Bridge & Whirlpool.  The fourth type is for an unknown
  20. finish.  Clicking any of the four radio buttons closes the ╘New╒ window.  To 
  21. be able to repeat the results of a good random start, but only during a single 
  22. startup of ╘3D Galaxy Collisions╒, a check box is provided.  Just click this 
  23. box if you want to have repeatable random galaxy results.  The edit field for 
  24. softening factor is preset with 2.  This ensures that gravitational effects 
  25. don╒t get out of had.  Experiment with this number at your own risk, try 
  26. lower numbers, but suggest 1.5 as low as you should go.  The softening 
  27. factor makes use of the inverse squared law of gravitation to reduce the 
  28. effects of garvity when the galaxies are in close to each other.
  29.      ╘Open...╒ will open a standard dialog which allows you to choose ╘3D 
  30. Galaxy Collision╒ type files.
  31.      ╘Close╒ will close an open file.
  32.      ╘Save╒ will save an already ╘Save As...╒ file.
  33.      ╘Save As...╒ will open a standard dialog which allows you to save ╘3D
  34. Galaxy Collision╒ type files. 
  35.      ╘Help╒ provides this help advice window.
  36.      ╘Page Setup...╒ brings up the standard page setup dialog for the particular
  37. printer selected with ╘Chooser╒ under the ╘Apple Menu╒.
  38.      ╘Print...╒ brings up the standard printer dialog for the particular printer 
  39. selected with ╘Chooser╒ under the ╘Apple Menu╒.  Note printing will make 
  40. black stars on a white background, to reduce ribbon useage.
  41.      ╘Transfer...╒ allows transfer to another application.
  42.      ╘Quit╒ takes you back to the ╘Finder╒.

  44.                                               EDIT MENU
  45.      Not yet functional between applications, but will work with edit fields 
  46. and desk accessories.

  48.                                            GALAXY MENU
  49.       ╘Configure╒ lets you make changes to standard data, such as change the 
  50. number of stars and rings, to a maximum of 500 stars.  You can also change 
  51. the INTRUDER galaxy╒s mass, start position and velocity through space.  
  52. Change to the number of itterations can also be edited, once maximum 
  53. itterations is reach you will have to step through each time period (see 
  54. below for ╘Plot╒).  If you ╘Open...╒ an existing file ╘Configure╒ is skipped.
  55.      ╘Plot╒ will automatically commence stepping through the number of 
  56. itterations set with ╘Configure╒.  Use <Stop> button to stop and <Step> to 
  57. single step one time period at a time and <Continue> to resume automatic 
  58. time itterations again.  Note on a 512k Mac it will take 68 secs. between
  59. time itterations, that is why the watch cursor is displayed, a Mac Plus 
  60. takes  secs. and a Mac SE takes 57 secs.  To get printouts or save an 
  61. intermediate result use the <Stop> button to regain normal menu, dialog, 
  62. etc. event processing.
